Dr. Krishnan Chalil

Work experience: Dr. Krishnan Chalil joined as Professor in the Department of Development Studies under the School of Social Sciences and Policy on 28-08-2019. Prior to joining here, he served in the University of Calicut, Mar Thoma College Chungathara, E K Nayanar Memorial Government College and Government College Kodanchery in Kerala. He held the positions of Reader, Associate Professor, Vice Principal and Principal in-charge in his previous institutions. He has 23 years of teaching and research experience. He completed his Ph. D in Economics from University of Calicut and M.Phil from Pondichery University. He has also completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Distance Education from IGNOU. He was conferred D.Litt (Hon.) degree by the University of South America in 2016. He has eight years of administrative experience as Principal, Vice Principal and Head of the Department. He has served as Chairman of the UG Board of Economics in University of Calicut for two terms (6 years). He had also served as member of the Research Council and Steering Committee on UG-CBCSS in University of Calicut for three years each. He has been guiding Ph.D Scholars in Kannur University and University of Calicut since 2002. By now 14 students have completed Ph.D programme under his guidance and five are in their final stage. In addition, till date 30 Master of Arts project reports, one M.Phil dissertation and one M.B.A. project works have been guided and supervised. He has completed 10 research projects funded by the UGC, ICSSR, CDS, KILE, KSHE and NISG. His current research project titled, “Role of Financial Institutions in Human Capital Formation” is sponsored by the Inter-University Centre for Alternative Economics under University of Kerala. He has authored five books, 15 chapters in books and 60 articles in journals. He has presented papers in 103 seminars and delivered keynote address in 15 conferences. He had received Pondichery University merit scholarship, ICSSR short-term Doctoral fellowship and ICSSR publication grant in the yester years. He had been selected for several teacher awards viz., M.M. Ghani Award for the Best College Teacher instituted by the University of Calicut in 2016., Prof. Sivaprasad Memorial Award for the best College Teacher of Kerala, Instituted by the Sivaprasad Foundation, Kollam in 2017., Fr. Dr. Jose Thekkan Award for the best College Teacher of Kerala, instituted by Christ College Irinjalakkuda in 2019 and Best Social Scientist Award from GRABS Educational Charitable Society, Chennai in 2019. He is a life member of Kerala Economics Association and Indian Distance Education Association.
