CUSB faculty Dr. Ranjan nominated as Regional Empowered Committee (REC) member by GOI
Central University of Bihar (CUSB) faculty Dr. Rajesh Kumar Ranjan, assistant professor, Centre for Environmental Sciences (EVS) has been nominated as a member of newly constituted Regional Empowered Committee (REC), East Central Zone, Ranchi by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF), Government of India. Dr. Ranjan was already a member of the REC for two years since January 2015 and his tenure is extended. Elaborating further Dr. Ranjan informed that as per Gazette of India notification dated 3rd January 2017 his membership is extended for next two years upto December 2018.
The REC has been constituted by MoEF as a step to ensure transparency and providing good governance by the government of India. The ministry has made changes in many rules for protection of environment which includes formation of REC. The REC has been accorded the powers to dispose proposals related to diversion of forest land, linear proposals projects irrespective of area of forest land involved, except proposals relating to mining, regularization of encroachments and hydel projects. For an unbiased and effective appraisal, REC comprises of three non-official experts in forestry and allied disciplines as members among whom Dr. Ranjan is representing the East Central region.
With the new system of delegation, approximately 92 per cent proposals will be disposed of at the Regional office, only 8 percent proposals involving diversion of large areas require approval of the Ministry.
