The Centre for Environmental Sciences (CESc) is presently offering master program in Environmental Science which revolves around multidisciplinary and integrated study of the earth, atmospheric, biological and chemical processes and their linkages with developmental perspectives for attaining a more sustainable environment. The focus includes to understand complex interactions between the different components of nature (between and beyond disciplinary boundaries), impact on food security and associated ecosystem services in the immediate and long-term perspectives besides environmental monitoring and management.

M.Sc. Environmental Science Programme

The two year (four semesters) Post Graduate Programme is designed to provide necessary knowledge and skills to postgraduate students so that they can learn to analyse and asses environmental systems and problems; be able to propose sustainable solutions and contribute to the development of policies and strategies for environmental planning. The major thrusts of the programme include:

  • To study issues related to exploitation of natural resources, the impacts of human activities thereon and the implications of environmental degradation on human development.
  • Natural Processes in the Environment, which focus on the natural processes such as the hydrological, atmospheric, Biogeochemical, micro-biological and ecological processes.
  • The Human Dimension of Environmental Change: to understand the determinants of the growth of populations and economies, and how this growth results in demand for natural resources, leading to scarcity, pollution and risks for human health.
  • Analytical Tools in Environmental Science: basic tools for analysing environmental issues, such as data collection and analysis and modelling of air, water, soil and biological systems.

Environmental Science Laboratory

The Environmental Science laboratory houses UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, High Volume Sampler, Microscope, Cultures of Various Microbes, Phytoplankton, Zooplankton etc. the laboratory is equipped with facilities of studying different tropic levels in lacustrine and riverine food webs. Besides, state of the art facilities for Geochemical Analysis, Ion chromatograph, Atomic Adsorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), Solvent extractor, GC, GCMS, Microwave digestion system, HPC facility, GIS software etc. are being added soon.
