Induction programme for newly enrolled students organised by Dept. of Development Studies
The Department of Development Studies (DVS) of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) flagged off its Induction Programme for the newly admitted students in the MA and PhD courses on 11th December 2021. The event was largely attended by students of the department and faculty members of other Social science departments. In his Key Note Address, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Professor Kameshwar Nath Singh, in his inimitable style remarked that Development Studies is not a simple discipline, rather it is a discipline of simplicity. He argued that blooming development practitioners must be empathetic to the needs of the people and sensitive to the regional context of Development. Plains of Ganga are the most fertile in the whole world but not the most productive. He also argued that Development should be adopted by passion and perseverance.
Further the Head of the Department, Prof Krishnan Chalil, apprised the audience about the four key initiatives – DVS Blog, Working Paper series and Monthly News Letter – as a critical step of the Department to connect with a wider audience of Planners and NGOs outside the academia. The event was compered by Mr. Aditya Mohanty, Asst. Prof. of the department and was graced by the Dean, Students’ Welfare, Prof Aatish Parashar who stressed upon media ethics in reporting Development research. Proctor, Prof Umesh Singh highlighted upon the critical role played b ecological ethics in community Developmental exercises. The event came to an end by a Vote of Thanks from the Organising Secretary, Dr Firdaus Fatima Rizvi.
