Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh gets Rs. 34 lakh grant from ICMR for research on Thalassemia
Focussed towards research and new inventions in the field of drug making the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) has another achievement in its kitty as the University professor Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh has bagged Rs. 34 lakh from ICMR. Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh, Associate Professor of Department of Bioinformatics has received the grant from Indian Council of Medical research (ICMR), New Delhi to work on the Thalassemia disease and its remedies.
Providing details Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh said that Thalassemia is a disease of the blood in which there is increased destruction (hemolysis) of the red cells. There are various severities of the disease from thalassemia major the severe form in which the patient needs regular blood transfusions in order to survive. I will work with my team including Dr. Anil Kumar from the department on beta-thalassemia for three years. This research would be focused to identify the inhibitors against iron overloading and cardiac arrhythmia in Indian patients, added Dr. Ajay.
