Earth Day Celebrated at CUSB on 23rd April 2018
Ecoclub of the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) Patna Campus celebrated the Earth Day on 23rd April 2018 with invited lectures, quiz competition and motivational speech. The theme of the celebration was to reduce plastic load and finally to end the plastic pollution. The session of this event was commenced by Dr. Arun Kumar Sihna, Prof.- in-charge of the CUSB, Patna campus, R.S. Rathore Dean of School of Earth Biological and Environmental Sciences, Dr. Ram Kumar HOD Centre for Environmental Sciences, Dr. Atish Prasar, Head, Centre for Mass Communication and Media), Dr. N. L. Devi, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Ranjan and Dr. Prashant.
The Patna Campus in charge of CUSB Prof. Arun Kumar Sinha explained how to protect our environment, how to preserve our natural resources among which the most important is water because un-producible and on future it might be possible that the third world war will be for water. The Dean of the School of Earth, Biological and Environmental Sciences Prof. R. S. Rathore congratulated everybody for organizing the World Earth Day. He announced about the proposed webpage of the ECOCLUB i.e ecoclub.cusb.ac.in . On the basis of the world map during 1ST world war, he demonstrated that 50% to 60% of the total land area of the world was covered by forest were as it has witnessed a decreased to 33%. He also explained the theme of the Earth day i.e. end of plastic pollution (reduce reuse and recycle of plastic pollution). Dr. Atish Prasar mentioned various issues related to the environment and methods of using the proposed webpage of Ecoclub so that everybody can contribute and in innovative way to sensitize people towards of the environment as well as our mother earth.
Dr. Ram Kumar, HoD of Environmental Sciences explained about the history of the Earth day celebration and how it this celebration has impacted globally till Paris accord. With the help of Vedic couplets he explained how Indian culture has been celebrating and cherishing the importance of the Earth since very beginning of human civilization. He explained that our earth is the most unique planet in solar system as well as in the whole universe which contain every life supporting resources, but other planets don’t have. One 21st March 1969 it was started but later it was changed to 22nd April to celebrate the world earth day. He also suggested everyone to make an initiative to reduce the use of plastic as far as possible. He mentioned that not only the use of plastic be reduced but other xenobiotic compound should also be decreased or stopped to some extent. Following which in the previous year Paris treaties were signed on that special day. The Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 of every year. However, because of Sunday the day was celebrated today on 23rd April instead of 22nd, 2018.
