Earth Day Celebrated at CUSB
Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) celebrated the Earth day on 22nd April 2019 at Science building within the University premises. The Earth day was celebrated by all science departments collectively to focus the theme of this year’s Earth day ‘Species protection”. The programme was inaugurated by the Registrar, Prof. Prabhat Kumar Singh Registrar, Central University of South Bihar, and the chief guest Prof. Sunil Chowdhary, from Department of Botany, TM Bhagalpur University. Other prominent luminaries were Prof. R.S Rathore, former Dean School of Earth, Biological and Environmental sciences, CUSB, Prof. S N Singh and Dr. Ram Kumar Dean (I/c), School of Earth, Biological and Environmental Sciences and Head department of environmental Science. Several students from across the department have participated in working model and project exhibition.
The ceremony was started with lightning the lamp, followed by kulgeet and Shanti path by the students for making all the peaceful environment after that Eco club T-shirt was launched by the Chief Guest Prof. Sunil Kumar Chowdhary and Prof. Prabhat Kumar Singh, Registrar Central University of South Bihar. Students and research scholars presented their models and projects focussing on sustainable development. Lectures delivered by the eminent dignitaries were started and was really enlightening for students.
Key note speaker Prof. Sunil Chowdhary delivered his lecture on "Endangered Species Recovery Programmes in India with focus on conservation of Gangetic dolphins". He demonstrated and highlighted the extinction factors of Gangetic Dolphin. He also requested to students for raise the voice and actively participates to protect native wild life of mother Earth. Prof. Chowdhary also highlighted the poaching and hunting of Gangetic Dolphins which is ultimately disturbed the aquatic food web and finally imbalance the entire lotic riverine ecosystem. He educated us how to conserve the flagship species i.e Gangetic Dolphins which is at the edge of extinction. He has also shared his experiences towards the conservation of Gangetic Dolphins and each and every species is maintaining the ecological balance.
Prof. R.S Rathore delivered lecture on “Sustainable Development” he also mentioned that the Earth Day has been celebrated since 1990 and known as the largest moment on the planet earth. He also putted his plan to make green campus of CUSB which is spreads in 350 acre land though sustainable way. The chairman appreciated the earth day programme and appeal to student to protect the environment. He focused on the Quality of rivers which is very essential for our survival now a days it changed by the anthropogenic activities. Various events include (i) Poster Competition, (ii) Competition for Nature photography and (iii) Model exhibition on 23rd April; (i) extemporaneous speech competition, painting competition on 24th April; and Painting exhibition, competition for research paper on 25th April. Prize and certificates will be awarded on 26th April in valedictory session.
More than 130 students and research scholars participated in the event today in Poster, Nature photography competition and Model exhibition. All judges and visitors interacted with participants about their presentation, innovative ideas, and individual-specific efforts to conserve the species in particular, and the biosphere in general.
