The Department of Geology in the Central University of South Bihar started from the session 2020-2021 with the aim to nurture students interested in comprehensive learning of the subject and to promote Human Resource Development (HRD) in achieving goals of sustainable development and conservation of natural resources. The faculty members of the Department of Geology are committed to engaging in high-quality research and in the pursuit of excellence in teaching. The department follows an inter- & intra-disciplinary approach and offers broad areas of geological training, which include Palaeontology, Stratigraphy, Micropaleontology, Oceanography, Hydrogeology, Natural Hazards, Risk Management, Remote Sensing, Petrology, and Geochemistry. In due course, we shall also open research areas in other sub-disciplines of Geology. Unplanned anthropogenic activity has disturbed both the earth’s natural processes and natural growth of the biosphere. The natural processes that are essential for sustainable development and healthy growth of various ecosystems within the biosphere are not operating as they should have been and consequently extinction of several organisms, issues related to health hazards and poor quality of life are inevitable. The geoscientists can try to understand the situation and develop possible scenarios based on their geological knowledge. In this connection, the students of the Department of Geology, CUSB will be prompted to advance, knowledge and experience in the application of geological principles to the investigation of natural resources, the ability to interpret geologic maps correctly, to identify and explain the formation of rock suites, ore deposits, structures and rock-forming minerals, skills associated with the geological project management, supervision, and decision-making processes and ability to have good teamwork and leadership practices.

Capacity building. The possibilities to acquire knowledge of the geological heritage have advanced many folds in the last three decades, however, graduate and post-graduate students are not able to develop insight into the science and therefore are not receiving proper training. The individual students from various universities will be trained through an internship, PhD research and post-doctoral research.

M.Sc. Geology Programme

The two-year (four semesters) Post Graduate Programme is designed to provide necessary knowledge and skills to the graduate students coming from various background.

PhD Programme

The launch of the PhD programme in the upcoming academic session in 2020-21 will further strengthen and institutionalize the traditions of innovation and research.
