2016
On the occasion of globally acclaimed International Day of Yoga the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) organised a special one-hour Yoga practicing session on Tuesday (June 21, 2016) morning at its Patna campus. The session conducted under the supervision of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Harish Chandra Singh Rathore was attended by the Registrar Dr. Gayathri V. Patil, Joint Registrar Mrs. Rashmi Tripathi, and the University officers, staff, faculty and students. The Yoga practicing session was led by Associate Professor and Head of Centre for Sociological Studies Dr. Sanat Kumar Sharma. A diploma holder in Yoga & Yogic Practices for Better Living, Dr. Sharma conducted the session as per the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) of International Day of Yoga structured by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
The one-hour session started with the prayer in meditative posture with Namaskara Mudra “ Omm Saṃgacchadhvaṃ saṃvadadhvaṃ, saṃ vo manāṃsi jānatām, devā bhāgaṃ yathā pūrve, sañjānānā upāsate, Omm Shantih, Shantih, Shantih.” Further, as per the CYP Yoga was undertaken in various Yogaasana (Yoga postures) such as standing postures, sitting postures, prone lying postures, and supine lying postures. The participants under the guidance of Dr. Sharma practice a number of Yoga postures, namely taadaasan, vrikshaasan, ardha chakraasana, vajrsana, utthana mandukaasana, bhujangasana, shalabhaasana, setubandhaasana, pavana muktaasana and shavaasana. Kapaalbharti, pranayama and dhayana (meditation) were other key ingredients of the Yoga session. The yoga practice session concluded with Sankalpa, “I commit myself to always be in a balanced state of mind. It is in the state that my highest self-development reaches its greatest possibility. I commit to do my duty to self, family, at work, to society, and to the world, for the promotion of peace, health and harmony”. This is followed by the Shaanti Paatha, “Omm, Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayah, Sarve Bhadrani Pashyantu, Maa Kaschit Dukha Bhagbhavet, Oom Shantih, Shantih, Shantih”.
Expressing happiness on the successful conduct of the session, Dr. Sharma told about the benefits of the Yoga techniques. He said that in simple words, achieving excellence in action is Yoga, which is very beneficial for human being to remain fit and healthy. CUSB Vice-Chancellor said International Day of Yoga is an excellent opportunity as well as a platform to promote the ancient Indian technique for keeping oneself healthy. If a person practice Yoga half-an-hour everyday, he / she will surely get rid of various ailments including the high-risk blood pressure and heart attack. Even the frequency of visiting or consulting the doctor shall be greatly reduced with the regular Yoga practicing as the body develop strong immune system with enough antibodies. Once the University would be shifted to our permanent campus at Panchanpur, Gaya, we would take the steps to add Yoga in our curriculum, added the Vice-Chancellor.
