The Research and Development Cell (RDC) of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) along with the departments of Biotechnology and Life Science organized a guest lecture on ‘India’s Journey in Science Through Centuries’. The lecture organised to let students know about the contribution of India in Science in Vedic as well as modern time was attended by over 350 students and 50 faculty members at Vivekanand Auditorium of CUSB. The special lecture was delivered by an Eminent, Iconic & Decorated Scientist of Present time, Prof. Shekhar C. Mande, a renowned Structural Biologist of India and Shanti Shwaroop Bhatnagar awardee, Former-Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Secretary, Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology and President, Vijnana Bharati.

 

Prof. Mande introduced a narrative of colonial power that Indians had no idea about science. But the fact is that the Indian contribution in science was either masked or suppressed. He provided facts about the ancient contribution of Indians in science such as discovery of Zero (0), lost-wax process, surgery and plastic surgery, metallurgy and so on. He also talked about the ancient dentistry practices for which archaeological evidences are collected from Mohenjo-Daro and the findings have been published in Nature. He also highlighted the role of Acharya Praful Chandra Ray in developing Rashayan Sastra in India. He also stresses upon the holistic approach that ancient Indians have practiced about Panchmahabootas. He also talked about the contribution of Indian scientists especially in developing technology for milk powder making from buffalo milk, vaccines and several other local technologies. He emphasized that we need to focus on developing local techniques, and work for the nation with empathy and patriotism to make India Developed by 2047 for which we have a clear-cut vision ahead. Prof. Mande also introduced students to Vijnana Bharati, a largest volunteer based organizing working to popularize Swadeshi science in India and across the world.

 

As the Patron CUSB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh emphasized upon the need for such talks that would fulfil the mandate required to fulfil one of the important requirements about NEP 2020. The talk highlights the need of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) to be included in each course. Prof. Singh also talked about an incident of Epic Ramayana in which when lord Rama decided to dry the ocean, the lord of Ocean requested him not to do as it is a natural resource needed to make balance on mother earth, which tells us about the balance of resources on the ecosystem. 

 

CUSB Public Relation Officer (PRO) Mohammad Mudassir Alam said that earlier the convenor of the program, Prof. Durg Vijai Singh, Director RDC delivered a welcome address. The co- convenor Prof. Rakesh Kumar, Head Biotechnology and Prof. Ram Pratap Singh, Head Life Science informed about the lecture series and introduced the guest to the audience. Secretary, Dr. Prabhat Ranjan (Head Computer Science Department) delivered a vote of thanks. Deans, Heads, and Faculty members of a large number of departments actively along with Prof. R. K Singh, OSD, Rashmi Tripathi (Finance Officer), attended the talk.
