Guest Lecture by Dr. Ghulam Md Ashraf, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University at Dept. of Biotechnology on February 06, 2025
The Department of Biotechnology, Central University of South Bihar, Panchanpur Gaya organized a lecture cum interactive session by Dr. Ghulam Md Ashraf who is currently working as Associate Professor of Biochemistry in Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, People’s Republic of China. This University was founded by a partnership between the University of Liverpool (United Kingdom) and Xi'an Jiaotong University, China. Dr. Ashraf belongs to the city of Gaya. Prof. Rizwanul Haque, Dean School of Earth, Biological and Environmental Sciences and Prof. Rakesh Kumar, Head Department of Biotechnology welcomed Dr. Ashraf by felicitating him, followed by brief introduction by Dr. Jawaid Ahsan, Senior Assistant Professor Department of Biotechnology.
Dr. Ashraf’s primary field of research is neuropharmacology, currently focused on investigating the molecular and behavioural mechanisms of novel therapeutic strategies in animal model of multiple sclerosis. His lab is also investigating the effect of new anti-diabetic drugs in the possible attenuation/reversal of anti-psychotic drugs induced weight gain. Dr. Ashraf has been granted 4 international patents, published 429 research manuscripts (citations: 15808, H-index: 65, i10 index: 255) and has been involved in 26 research grants. During his lecture cum interactive session, he motivated the students by sharing his research journey, travelling through different countries. He explained the meaning and importance of research, how a research topic should be selected, how to design the experiments till the publication of the results. He also talked about the Ethics in research and how to select the right journals for publications. He told about his current lab interest on understanding and treating multiple sclerosis, the only neurodegenerative disorder that could be reversed. He encouraged the students to apply in various good research institutions in China for higher studies and research, told about the available open positions and scholarships for the foreign students. The faculty members and students asked many questions during the session. The session was attended by Dr. Krishna Prakash, Dr. Pratishtha Sonker, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. Durg Vijay Singh, research scholars and students of the Department of Biotechnology.
