Self-defense workshop organized for Girl students at CUSB, March 03 - 07, 2025
A week-long self-defense workshop was organized for girl students by the Department of Physical Education, Faculty of Education, Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) on the occasion of International Women's Day week. Organized under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh and led by Prof. Usha Tiwari, Head of Physical Education Department, this week-long program aimed to equip girl students with essential self-defense techniques and enhance their confidence and safety skills.
Mrs. Rashmi Tripathi attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Rashmi Tripathi emphasized the importance of self-defense training for women in the current scenario. She appreciated the Department of Physical Education for organizing an important workshop on the subject of women's safety and encouraged the participants to take full advantage of this opportunity. Dean of Education Faculty Prof. Ravikant, Head of Physical Education Department Prof. Usha Tiwari, Prof. Ashish Singh, Dr. Rahul Kumar Singh, Dr. Gaurav Kumar Singh, Dr. Pintu Lal Das, Dr. Chetna Dr. Renu, Dr. J.P. Singh also attended the program. The program was conducted by Assistant Professor of Physical Education Department Miss R.L. Udarishna Deori.
Giving detailed information, Prof. Usha Tiwari, Head of Physical Education Department, said that the workshop is being organized under the guidance of Dr. Deepshikha Raghav, Vice President of Japan Karate-Do Maruyoshikai Organization India. As an expert, Dr. Deepshikha Raghav's expertise in martial arts is expected to provide invaluable training to the participants. A total of 50 girl students of CUSB Gaya have registered for the workshop. During the week, they will receive practical training in self-defense techniques, focusing on situational awareness, basic combat skills and strategies for personal protection. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks expressing gratitude to the distinguished guests, faculty members and students for their enthusiastic participation.
The training at the workshop was led by Dr. Deepshikha Raghav, Vice President, Japan Karate Maruyoshikai Organization (JKMO India). Dr. Deepshikha Raghav, a reputed self-defense expert, provided practical demonstrations, real-life scenario-based exercises and theoretical insights to the participants during the workshop. The dedicated efforts of R.L. Udrishna Deori (Organizing Secretary) and Dr. Deepshikha Raghav empowered the participants to learn and understand structured training, theoretical knowledge and practical self-defense techniques.
The workshop included morning and evening training sessions to maximize participation. The degree of difficulty was gradually increased each day, helping the students develop strength, reflexes and situational awareness. The techniques covered in the workshop included escaping dangerous holds and ground defense, chokehold defense (front and back), hair grabbing, multiple attacker tactics, basic ground defense and safe get-up techniques and running over the attacker, etc.
The closing ceremony of the weekly workshop was attended by Prof. Kiran Kumari, Head, Department of Geography along with Prof. Archana Kumari, Department of English, Prof. Ravi Kant, Dean, School of Education, Dr. Rinki, School of Education, Ms. Renu Rai, Department of Commerce, Dr. Pintu Lal Mandal, Mr. Pratish Kumar Das, Deputy Registrar and Mr. Shashi Ranjan, Assistant Registrar etc. were present. Addressing the participants, Chief Guest Prof. Kiran Kumari emphasized that self-defense is not just a physical skill but a mindset that promotes self-confidence and self-reliance in young women. Mr. Arvind Maurya, Ajay Kumar and Keshav from Physical Education Department and Ayushi Arya from Environmental Science Department actively contributed for the smooth training of the sessions.
