The Department of Geology at the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), Gaya, recently hosted a notable event, the Indian Geophysical Union (IGU) Anni Talwani Memorial Prize Lecture. Prof. Prafull Singh, Head of the Department of Geology and Convenor of the IGU-Anni Talwani Lecture, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and speakers. In his address, Prof. Singh extended a special welcome to Dr. Ajay Pratap Singh, Scientist at the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, and congratulated him on being awarded the prestigious IGU-Anni Talwani Memorial Prize for 2024. He also welcomed Dr. Abhey Ram Bansal, Chief Scientist at CSIR-NGRI, Hyderabad, and Secretary of the IGU. Prof. Singh expressed his sincere gratitude to Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and President of the IGU, for granting permission to host the IGU-Anni Talwani Memorial Prize Lecture at the Department in 2025. He further extended a warm welcome to Prof. Rizwanul Haque, Dean of the School of Earth, Biological, and Environmental Sciences, and Prof. D.V. Singh, Director of the Research & Development Cell, for their valuable presence and support.

During the event, Dr. Abhey Ram Bansal briefed the audience on the various initiatives of the IGU and highlighted numerous opportunities available for students and researchers. Following this, Dr. Ajay Pratap Singh delivered an insightful lecture on Earthquake Tomography of Plate Interiors and the Himalayan Region to Understand Seismogenesis. His talk emphasized the key technical aspects of earthquake studies, seismic imaging, and showcased the strengths and ongoing research efforts of Indian seismological institutions. Adding to the enriching experience, Dr. Abhey Ram Bansal also delivered a lecture on "Dynamic Triggering of Earthquakes and Tremors," offering students a deeper understanding of earthquake dynamics. The IGU-Anni Talwani Memorial Prize Lecture witnessed enthusiastic participation, with over 100 students, researchers, and faculty members. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. K. Milankumar Sharma.
