Dept. of Physics organizes lecture on Photonic Chips, Quantum Computing, April 17, 2026
The Department of Physics at the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) organized a special lecture on the topic, "Photonic Chips for Neutral Atom Quantum Computing." Mr. Sanjeet Kumar, a researcher with the Neuromorphic Quantum Photonics Group at the Kirchhoff Institute of Physics, Heidelberg University (Germany), served as the keynote speaker at this event. During his lecture, Mr. Sanjeet Kumar explained how powerful quantum computers can be developed by utilizing light (photonics) and neutral atoms. He discussed in detail the fabrication of photonic chips, the challenges associated with them, and their practical applications. Furthermore, he shared insights into his current research work, which involves the development of an electro-optic phase modulator designed to control atoms using UV light. Addressing the students during the session, he emphasized that in today's world, acquiring practical skills—rather than merely theoretical knowledge—is of paramount importance to enable students to advance in their careers. The event organized under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwara Nath Singh, was attended by senior faculty member Prof. Venkatesh Singh, along with other faculty members of the department and students. Following the formal inauguration of the program, research scholar Rajiv welcomed the guests, while Dr. Lakhwinder Singh, Assistant Professor, delivered the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the event. During the lecture, students posed pertinent questions related to the subject matter and gained valuable new insights.
