Legal Awareness Programme on Role of Students in eradicating lack of legal awareness amongst masses

Under the aegis of Bihar State Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority, Gaya and Legal Aid Clinic, Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) a joint legal awareness program was organised. The awareness programme under the Azadi ke Amrit Mahotsav on 75 year of Independence was organised at the Swami Vivekananda Lecture Hall Complex of CUSB. The topic of the legal awareness programme was “Role of students in eradicating lack of legal awareness amongst Masses”.
The Chief Guest of the program was Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ashwani Kumar Singh, Justice Patna High Court cum Executive Chairman, Bihar State Legal Services Authority. The Vice Chancellor of CUSB Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh, Shri SD Sanjay, Former Additional Advocate General, Government of India, Shri Jitendra Kumar District and Sessions Judge, Gaya cum District Legal Services Authority, Shri Rajiv Ranjan, Member Secretary, Bihar as keynote speaker. State Legal Services Authority and Dean, School of Law and Governance of the central University Shri Pawan Kumar Mishra, were other speakers of the programme. Students of CUSB and Anugrah Memorial College, Gaya, judicial officers of Gaya Judgeship and faculty members of the University participated in the programme. In the program, speakers highlighted the legal aid and schemes being run by the National Legal Services Authority and the need for those schemes to reach the poor, deprived and exploited citizens of the society. At the same time, they stressed upon the role of students in the successful promotion and implementation of these schemes.
In his lecture, the Hon’ble Justice emphasized that the society which provides cheap or free education to the students should also do their service to the society and which should be given in the form of legal awareness. He further said that schools and colleges are an important medium for legal awareness.
CUSB Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. N. Singh said that the students should use their abilities and skills in the interest of the society. He said, “Those who are desolate, forgotten, they are all yours, they also have someone in their eyes, dreams like you.” Hon’ble Vice Chancellor said that I believe that horizontal development of the University can bring desired results and as such can serve the purpose of higher educational institutions being located in any province. With horizontal growth, an institution can ensure the spread of academic activities with efficiency and at the same time can play an important role in the development of the community. It gives me immense pleasure to inform you that the University has adopted five villages situated around its campus where awareness programs are organized from time-to-time.
Shri Jitendra Kumar, the District and Sessions Judge said that about 50 percent of the population of rural areas is illiterate and below the poverty line, to which legal awareness and legal aid can be reached through students.
In the program Prof. Sanjay Prakash Srivastava, Prof. Brajesh Kumar, Col. Rajiv Pratap Singh, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Das, Dr. Digvijay Singh, Dr. Dev Narayan Singh, Mrs. Poonam Kumari, Dr. Pallavi Singh, Dr. Anant P. Narayan, Mr. Mani Pratap, Dr. Kumari Nitu, along with many others were present.
The program was co-ordinated by the Legal Aid Clinic, Central University of South Bihar, whose video link is also available on YouTube. Welcoming the guests of the program, welcome anthem and stage conduct were done by Ms. Shikha Sharma, Ms. Swati Singh, Judicial Officers, and vote of thanks by Mrs. Anju Singh, Secretary District Legal Services Authority along with the announcement of the end of the program.
