CUSB Library becomes fully Automated with RFID & MyLoft systems

Known for making the exceptions and new initiatives, the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) has once again proved its mettle by setting up the 1st fully automated library in the state of Bihar. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. H.C.S. Rathore inaugurated the Automated Library on Tuesday, February 02, 2021. The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Registrar Col. R. K. Singh and Librarian Dr. Pramod Kr. Singh. Prof. Rathore kicked off the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Automation System and MyLoft application software used for remote access of e-Resources.
Prof. H.C.S. Rathore in his address praised the Librarian, Deputy Librarian, automated system developers Dr. Md. Gulnawaz Azam and Mr. Kshitiz Singh for successful development and implementation of the project. I feel proud in telling you that we are the first automated library in the state of Bihar. Within two years the construction work of the multi-storey building of Central Library would be completed. If we continue the good work and technological enhancement CUSB Library would be undoubtedly among the best libraries in the country.
Providing details Librarian Dr. Pramod Kr. Singh said that the new system fulfilling the fourth law of the Library proposed by S.R. Ranganathan, known as the father of Library Science in India in 1932. CUSB has adopted the RFID Automated System inspired from the Fourth law of Library Science which says ‘Save the time of Users’. The fully automated RFID system has been integrated by Information Scientist Mr. Kshitiz Singh. The use of RFID reduces the amount of time required to perform circulation operations of the library such as issuing and returning of books can be fully automatized with the help of self check-in and check-out systems. It has other highlights such as account station, anti-theft detection, book dropbox, ability to locate specific items and automated Email to the user on every issue or return operation. It has other benefits like improving library workflow, reducing non-value added work processes, improves staff productivity, improves user service of the library, etc. All the facilities can be only available through a biometric record of the registered user.
Dr. Singh also shared the details about the facility for remote access of CUSB subscribed e-Resources through MyLOFT application software for their users. Through the application all CUSB subscribed e-Resources such as e-journals, e-books, e-databases have been integrated with a centralised access point and with a single username and password. Now the users will be able to access these e-Resources remotely on their PC, Laptop, Mobile Phone as well as on Tablet.
