Workshop on Rewriting Indian History: Challenges and Social Consequences

A two-day national seminar on the topic ‘Rewriting Indian History: Challenges and Social Consequences’ organized during February 24-25, 2020 at CUSB. The seminar was jointly organized by the Department of Sociological Studies and the Department of Historical Studies and Archaeology of the University. The event formally commenced on Monday, February 24, 2020 with lighting-the-lamp ceremony, presided over by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of CUSB, Prof. H.C.S. Rathore, the chief guests Prof. Arvind P. Jamkhedkar and Sri Swant Ranjan Jee. The Chief Guest of the Seminar, Hon’ble Chairperson, ICHR, Prof. Arvind P. Jamkhedkar, stressed on the Indian Sanskrit grammarians and their works, and stated that the Indian concepts of Grammar can be traced in various other languages.

Furthermore, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. H.C.S. Rathore shared his thoughts on the way historical evidences were destroyed by the colonisers in order to establish their own sense of history. The Guest of Honour, Sri Swant Ranjan Jee addressed the audience with the notion that, the general public learnt about history through stories, so as to understand the past mistakes and to rectify it in future and move forward. Additionally he stated that, “We should not only focus on mere facts, rather the truth behind the facts”.

At the outset, welcome speech was delivered by the Convener of the seminar, Dr. Anil Kumar Singh Jha, after welcoming the guest, he brought to light the close bond between sociology and history.  Next on dais was Dr. Sudhanshu Kumar Jha, the convener of the seminar, who delivered his ideas on the major themes and perspectives of the seminar. Dr. Sanat Kumar Sharma, Dr. Jeetendra Ram and other faculty members of the department given valuable contributions for successful conduct of the seminar.

The two-day seminar brought together more than hundred national scholars for intense interaction on the topic. The key-speakers Prof. B.K. Nagla, Prof. Sankar Saran and Prof. Himanshu Chaturvedi spoke about various aspects of society and history. On the second day the valedictory session was chaired by Registrar Col. R. K. Singh (Retd.). The function came to an end, with a short vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sudhanshu Jha.
