First CCI-CUSB National Moot Court Competition organised at CUSB
In the welcome address Dean & HoD (SLG) Prof. S.P. Srivastava said that the competition is not only developing legal acumen but also being an important knowledge and asset for law students. He emphasized on minute manners and meticulous exercise to be done by the students to work in dynamic efficiency.
The chief guest Mr. Ranjit Kumar spoke about the evolution of Competition Act, 2002. He explained how the Monopolies and Trade Provision Act, 1969 became obsolete at a time, hence, the Competition bill was brought to the parliament by the late Dr. Arun Jaitley. Further, Mr. Kumar said about the object of Competition i.e. to curb monopoly of competition and how to eradicate the negative aspect of competition. He said that the scope, application and implementation of Competition Law vary widely across jurisdictions.
While delivering the presidential speech VC Prof. K. N. Singh said that the purpose of Competition Commission of India is to maintain the valid competition in the market. With this moot competition the participant will come to know about the practical aspects of the Competition Act. Further he expressed his concern with high cost justice and common citizens have to bear heavy charges for judgment reading only. So, I think the emphasis is to be given for encouraging the discussion among the scholars, participants with regards to providing a justice delivery system accessible at a very low charge. He urged the students to utilise their profession for the welfare of the society and nation. With great enthusiasm many teams have registered themselves for the three-day competition. The student community of CUSB has put in a desk of focused effort to organise this moot court competition which acts as the University’s contribution to the mooting fraternity. At last the organising secretary Dr. Pradeep Kumar Das proposed the vote of thanks and thanked all the faculty members, participants and volunteers for being a part of the national level event
