Guest Lecture on Philosophical Foundations of Indian Education by Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma
A guest lecture on the topic “Philosophical Foundations of Indian Education” was organized by the Department of Teacher Education (DTE), Central University of South Bihar (CUSB). The lecture was organised under the mentorship of CUSB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh. The event formally inaugurated by lighting of lamp by the chief guest Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Secretary, Vidya Bharti, Akhil Bhartiya Siksha Sansthan, New Delhi, CUSB VC Prof. K. N. Singh and other dignitaries.
Further, the Dean of School of Education, Prof. Kaushal Kishore welcomed all the guests and audience present inside the Malviya Bhawan Auditorium. Prof. Ravi Kant, Head, Department of Teacher Education introduced the chief guest and also gave a brief description about the topic.
The keynote speaker and chief guest Dr. Shiv Kumar, Secretary, Vidya Bharti, started his lecture by discussing the integral aspects of science and philosophy. He highlighted the relation between philosophy and education. Dr. Kumar also threw some light on the importance of different Indian philosophies like Sankhya, Nyaya, Vedanta, Yoga, Upanishads, and Mimamsa Darshana in the context of education and quoted some Modern Indian philosophers like Vivekananda, Dayananda, Aurobindo, etc. He ended his lecture by stating the four main points of Indian philosophy- education for character and nation building, scriptures and Vedas as source of knowledge, changing nature of Knowledge and education of humanity.
In his presidential address CUSB VC Prof. K. N. Singh primarily kept focus on decolonization of the Indian mindset and promotion of life skills and practical knowledge among students through education. He emphasised upon the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) and its significance in the present scenario.
The vote of thanks was given by the co-ordinator of the programme Dr. Mitanjali Sahoo, Assistant Professor, DTE. The lecture was moderated by Dr. Swati Gupta, Assistant Professor, DTE. The faculty members, research scholars, and students of the various departments were present in the guest lecture. The programme ended with the National anthem.
