ICMR collaborative research grant to CUSB and IGIMS for research on Breast Cancer

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi has awarded a collaborative research grant to Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), Gaya and Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science (IGIMS), Patna.  Prof. Rizwanul Haque (Co-PI) from the Dept. of Biotechnology of CUSB has bagged the Rs. 37.5 lakhs research grant along with Dr. Md. Margoob Ahmad (Principal Investigator), a Scientist-II from the Department of Pharmacology at IGIMS. CUSB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh has congratulated Prof. Rizwanul Haque and the collaborative team members of IGIMS for getting the research grant for advancing research in the field of breast cancer. In recognition of this remarkable achievement, Prof. Bindey Kumar (Director, IGIMS) along with Prof. Rajesh Kumar (Dean of Research, IGIMS) and Prof. Harihar Dikshit (former HoD Pharmacology, IGIMS) extended their heartfelt congratulations to the research team and wished them good luck.

Providing details Prof. Haque said that he is working as the Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) in the project led by Dr. Md. Margoob Ahmad as Principal Investigator. Other Co-Principal Investigators from IGIMS include Prof. Dr. Lalit Mohan (Dept. of Pharmacology) and Dr. Manish Kumar (Dept. of Surgical Oncology). The team members in this collaborative project will investigate into the realm of epigenetic modifications within breast cancer cells, exploring their influence on genetic stability and gene expression. The mission is to decipher how cell signalling molecules within cell cycle pathways impact various stages of breast cancer development.

The outcomes of this study could potentially lead to the development and establishment of a cost-effective assay for accurate region-specific methylation status, offering a valuable tool for both research and diagnostics.
